Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 December 2019 I'm a big fan of historical drama and this one didn't disappoint. Excellent sets, cinematography, music, script and acting. I found it a little confusing at times, but only because my English ears don't cope well with eastern European name recognition. I knocked one star off because the English subs translation is a little clumsy and also Amazon seem to have added the X-ray details (cast etc) from the more recent Helen Mirren series. One day Amazon will pay more attention. I have no doubt that this review will also appear under the later series and not be confined to this 2014 version. PAY MORE ATTENTION AMAZON!!!! Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 January 2020 I thought this Russian version of Catherine the Great was brilliant to watch, the set's were fantastic, the story was fascinating & acting was bang on - loved it all in HD as well.

The art work & wire fights fit right in with the story narrative and scores. However, the Blu-ray disk was defective, having several sectors that will not play in my farily expensive Blu-ray play with the latest updates. Full marks to for sending me a replacement disk @ no charge, but after attempting to play it several times, I gave up. It appears the entire current supply is defective, which is a shame as the production values of the film alone make this a must-see for fans of this genre. The 2 star rating is strictly due to numerous defects in both Blu-ray disks, preventing enjoyment of the film.
